As a majority of people in the LGBT community know, Pride is held all year round in hundreds of locations. With that being said, we wanted to have something along those lines that would be beneficial to the youth, so we thought about doing a Youth Pride. The event includes guest speakers, awareness booths, games, music, and to close the event, an open mic coffee house event to have the youth "Celebrate Themselves."
ORHS GSA
Oak Ridge High School's Gay-Straight Alliance has been active for eight years. In those eight years we have helped establish a PFLAG, have had members in three documentaries, planned GSA picnics, participated in Community Service Projects, given workshops for teachers and administrators about LGBTQ+ bullying. With those workshops we've helped a nearby middle school establish their first diversity club, and we have done a majority of the planning of Oak Ridge's first Youth Pride Fest.
Middle School Diversity Club
Just recently, a nearby middle school has gotten the O.K. to start their own diversity club, due to the assistance of Oak Ridge High School Gay-Straight Alliance.
